My Light Art Therapy

Art therapy

What is art therapy?

A form of psychotherapy using creative processes - such as drawing, painting, sculpting and making - to support emotional insight, self-expression and psychological growth.

It provides a gentle, supportive way for people to explore thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to put into words.

Art therapy is used with children, adolescents and adults.

No artistic skill or experience is required.

Why art therapy?

For many people, emotions can be complex, confusing or hard to explain verbally. Through creative expression, clients may be able to:

  • Express feelings that are difficult to talk about
  • Develop emotional awareness and regulation
  • Explore experiences safely and at their own pace
  • Build confidence and a sense of agency
  • Feel seen, heard and understood

The focus is not on creating artwork, but on the process and what it reveals and supports emotionally.

Complementary approaches

While talk therapy focuses primarily on verbal expression, art therapy introduces creative processes as an additional way to explore thoughts and emotions.

Clients don’t need to talk about their artwork unless they wish to. The therapist supports the process in a way that feels respectful, collaborative and safe.

Especially helpful when…

  • Words are hard to find
  • Emotions feel overwhelming
  • You prefer a more experiential approach
