Testimonials

In their words

Experiences shared by families and organisations

The reflections shared here come from parents who have seen the value of art therapy for their children, and from organisations Orly has worked with to deliver workshops, webinars and creative wellbeing programs. They offer personal perspectives on these experiences and are not presented as testimonials from therapy clients themselves.

Family & Organisation Perspective

Sallie Egglestone

EDFA

Orly and her beautiful practice, My Light Art Therapy, are such a gift to those needing support in a simple but truly powerful way.

Having a child with an eating disorder involves complex support and can be distressing and overwhelming for families. A safe space that is uplifting, comforting, and requires no effort beyond simply “being” has been a welcome alternative - and a game changer - for so many families I support through my organisation, as well as for my own daughter and her mental health journey.

Orly has a beautiful gift.

Parent Experience

My daughter, who has ADHD and ASD, comes home from her art therapy sessions so much calmer. She is better able to self-regulate, manage her nighttime routine, and connect with our family.

The sessions give her time to decompress from a week where she can feel overstimulated and overwhelmed - a real reset for the week ahead.

We are so grateful to have found Orly and to have added art therapy to her weekly routine.

Community Experience

Senior Community Leader

Leading Melbourne Community Organisation

Working with Orly Appel has been an inspiring experience that I feel truly grateful for. Her sessions have been more than just art therapy; they’ve been spaces of genuine connection, healing, and joy.

Orly’s warm, approachable nature, combined with her deep knowledge and experience, makes everyone feel comfortable and open to expressing themselves. Watching her engage with our community - especially during an event she ran with our seniors - has been heartwarming.

She has a unique ability to help participants tap into their creativity in ways that feel freeing and empowering, allowing them to express emotions that are often hard to put into words. The room comes alive with energy, positivity, and a beautiful sense of togetherness, all thanks to Orly’s approach.

Her expertise, grounded in both creative and psychotherapeutic methods, shows in every session. Orly’s person-centred, strength-based approach means each individual feels seen and valued, making their creative expression feel purposeful and meaningful.

It’s been wonderful to witness firsthand the impact she has, and I look forward to more opportunities to work with her and see her continue to enrich our community. Thank you, Orly, for sharing your gift with us.

Every person’s experience of therapy is unique. These reflections are shared to offer insight and reassurance, not to promise specific outcomes.
